Yesterday was my first ride of many in the Fort Myers area, as I am wintering here. I learned that the roads are nothing like Cape Cod or New England. Bike lane are on high traffic areas, but I'm hoping to find some quiet roads. Still beats shoveling snow and indoor training.

Hopefully this image displays properly.
As seen,,,, it's on Fort Lauderdale beach. Each year, the chamber of commerce has a particular theme. Seeing that last winter was so awful up north, they thought it give us "snow birds" some joy at being in Florida.

Bernie,
Does that make you long for the snow ?
I finally found some nice quiet roads in Ft Myers. I just need to head east.

Finally got a nice warm day in Fort Myers and decided to head out to the only hill around. The bridge that crosses the Caloosahatchee River. Ended up riding 54 miles. But I've learned that any Florida road with a state road number is like riding the interstate highway system with a bike lane.

Today's weather in Ft Myers was perfect for a ride to the beach. The road south had low traffic and a bike lane. Once I got close to Bonita Beach, the bike lane disappeared and the traffic got crazy. I rode the sidewalk to the beach. That gets a ticket in Boston, but, no other choices down here.
60 miles round trip with little wind. Certainly beats shoveling snow back home.

My first ride into Washoe Valley this year.  26 mile round trip from my house.

But I had to tackle Lakeview Hill to get there.

I've ridden almost 1000 miles in the Ft Myers area and have come across a lot of interesting sites.
This one looks like an old Civil War cemetery.

Round the car park at the back of my house for one hour, as I've just bought this one.

Well, today was my first ride on my used (New to me) Bella AT  and I rode 14 miles, from the bike shop where I purchased it to my house! It was wonderful! This was my first time on a 2 wheeled recumbent and I jumped in with both feet! Wonderful smooth ride. I had quite the learning curve on how to steering, balancing, well, just about everything. I was a nervous wreck! I learned, faster is better when steering! I really had a great time and I am going out again tomorrow on a 30 mile ride!

I fitted to what I think is about right, but any suggestions on fitting will be helpful!

You'll do just fine Matthew.
With this active forum, you will receive all sorts of suggestions etc.
I have a Corsa which is a bit different than your Bella.
The one important thing I learned early on is to NOT give a strangle hold on the handlebars. The more you strangle the bars, the more jittery the steering is. Just try to gently let the bike do it's thing while going straight.
Other than that,,, sit back and have a blast.

Re: Where did your Bacchetta take you today? 2016/07/13 09:02:43 (permalink)
Monday, July 11:  My 2006 Bacchetta Corsa 26 AL took me through the streets of Vienna, Falls Church and Arlington, VA to cross the Potomac River on the Chain Bridge to the C&O canal towpath (mile 4). From there, it made me go 31.5 miles, past the Potomac and Mather Gorges, 'Little Falls', Hens&Chickens islands in the widest part of the canal, alongside 'The Great Falls', by Swains, Violette's and Riley's  locks through wooded trails to end at White's Ferry.  For $2, the ferryman let me cross back over the Potomac and then my Corsa made me ride beside all manners of cars on Rt 15 and onto the W&OD at Leesburg through the towns of Leesburg, Ashburn, Herndon, Reston and home to Vienna.  73 miles of the best recumbent ride I've done south of New Hampshire.

It has been a while since I posted a picture. Here is my bike on our 400k a couple of weeks ago. Mt Baker in the background. I dnf'd but it was nice day anyway. It was hot and I worked too hard getting up to Barlow Pass.

My new Bacchetta Bella took me on a 25 mile ride through pecan groves and country roads which
have smooth new asphalt surfaces and beautiful views.  What a combination:  Nice smooth roads and
a new Bella !  BTW:  I've ridden the Bella about 200 miles so far, and I haven't heard a single squeak
or rattle (except maybe from my 73 year old body).  I've owned just about every type of recumbent
since 1997, and the Bella is my favorite.  Not the fastest, for sure.  Either of the two Carbon Aeros
that I once owned were obviously faster; however, with its upgraded performance drivetrain and
wheels......plus the ZZipper Teardrop fairing that I installed....it is now slightly faster than my faired
Gold Rush ever was.  The Bella is just pure fun....and the most comfortable bike that I have ever
owned !!
