Talked to David Bradley after the start. Both B teams are off and racing in good conditions. David said everyone was feeling good. Crew chief Ron Smith says all the pre-start prep has gone very smoothly and the crew is doing great. Now for some racing!

Start line picture my sister sent me of the Team including Allan and I. It was such an honor to ride out like a real racer with these guys. The 7 miles of bike path went quickly and the crew went into action getting racers, bike, and crew where they needed to go and to get the race rolling. Ron Smith Jr. the "on road" crew chief is doing a great job, or maybe there is just so much crewing talent and racers who have their stuff together that they just make him look good. I thought it might be very difficult to let what I consider "My Team" depart under the care of another crew chief but I didn't have any problem with that here. Hardest part was not taking the left turn at the end of the bike path which would have put me on the race course But that was Chris' job and a good job he did.

Last word I got was Time Station 5 reached with an average speed just under 20 mph. Not too bad for racers who have never really raced together and a team while full of talent still needing to adjust to the learning curve that is Raam. Watch to see their relative performance pick up in the next 24 hours. These guys (and gals) absolutely ROCK!

I understand Chris Kaiser, who was in the hospital for extreme dehydration, is now out and heading east to catch up with the team. Can someone gives us an update as to Chris's condition and how the rest of the team are doing?

I have communicated with the team this morning. Chris is out and headed back to the team. Rotations and pulls are being adjusted until Chris is able to jump back into the fray. He is doing well and all should be ok. Reports are that he team is working well together and handling any hiccups they come across.

I think Dana is taking the opportunity to demonstrate to the team was a solid racer he is. Leading by example and not letting Chris' setback effect his ability to race. The team, racers and crew, are out there pushing forward regardless of the problems that may come up.

That is good news. Hopefully there will be no more problems. This team has had more than their fair share of problems. They have overcome each one as it came up, but they are definitely due for a break.

Well at least they didn't have a van catch fire and explode

BREAKING NEWS: T424 RWB's van caught fire and exploded
    By Michelle Kingston

    Cottonwood, AZ
    June 17, 2012

A Race Across America official, Kim Duchicela, has reported that the tweet I received an hour ago is in fact accurate. T424 RWB's van caught fire and exploded at 14:38 just two miles west of Aguila, AZ.

They are currently working on getting another car.

    Nobody was injured.

Wow...thanks for putting this in perspective David.  I'm amazed more accidents like this don't happen more on RAAM, with racers, crew and machines pushed to the limit 24/7.

Best wishes for Chris's recovery and Team Sarcoma, great job!!!
