Team Bacchetta RAAM updates!!!

This is just a quick update to let everyone know that the crew is on the way! Team Bacchetta RAAM is almost at Oceanside. Larry should be close to the start. The Polks are in NM and it is slow going with the "Chateau" getting incredibly low gas mileage. Lisa and Tim and crew were in AZ last I checked. John and Jacquie are enjoying the scenery and enjoying a bike ride every day on the way out it seems. Kristy will be flying out at the last minute. I know all of us here at home can't wait for the Race Across America to start so I can give you updates on this awesome team and crew. Catch up to all info on the Team Bacchetta RAAM blog listed above my signature and posted right here on this thread.

They made good time last night. I got a text an hour ago from Kent. They just arrived in Oceanside! I'll be visiting with lights tomorrow morning.

Yeah! And some wheel covers, I hope! :^) Just got everything set up for tonight with the rv. Tired of being cooped up in it for so long and didn't feel like breaking the bike out. Will go for a walk instead. Hope to install the covers and light and go check them out!

    Thanks JV and Willie!!!

    Update: 8:00pm

The Polk family has arrived! Avila and company are within the hour and John and Jacquie are looking at a possible midnight arrival time. Larry has been there riding the start and Kristy is arriving some time this evening on a flight. Looks like the gang is almost all gathered! This is looking like a great start to a great RAAM! Next update will be tomorrow after the racers are up and rested and fresh details arrive.

It's a bit early to say this, but I hope you all have a great time and ride safe please!! "Hell on Two Wheels" really puts things into perspective of how hard everyone works to accomplish this feat!

Thank you, Charles!! A new update is up on the site. Looks like it was just a rest day with a little prep and some catch up on a few things. Racers on the solo RAAM and RAW were seen off including SK!! It was honestly hard to catch up with anyone today. I received some pics and it looked like smiles and fun. I'm sure they are enjoying the rest while it lasts. Looks like Kent and maybe some others may test out the new Surefire lights this evening!

Just a quick note and big thanks to Jim for getting the information up on www.teambacchettaraam.com,

The crew has gel and the racers, well were racers what do you expect. No just kidding we are fine.

Watching the race form the lap top Sergey Zimin , from Russia on his homebuilt HPV is still truddling along.

SK is riding rock solid and steady!

RAAM solo friends, Paul Carpenter and Kurt Searvogal are out there rolling along.
Paul staying steady and we're getting concerned about Kurt. To all these racers AZ sucks, on my solo I slide to last place but what all soloist should have in their head , it is a long dam race and you can make up a lot of your losses.

Team Sarcoma is looking good and relaxed. All stay tuned less then 30 hours to the start of Team RAAM.

    Keep spinning

Team Bacchetta RAAM updates!!! 2012/06/15 15:46:52 (permalink)
This has been a great week. The racers and crew have all taken to each other very well as is a normal Bacchetta family thing. And, everyone is ready to go. This is going to be an important last few hours for the racers and rest and fueling are important. All racers and crew ask that there please be no contact of the racers in anyway, be it email, text, or phone calls after about 8pm this evening through to the end of the race so that all their attention can go to the race and rest can be had when needed. All messages can be relayed through messages on this blog, hear on this thread, our Facebook page, and Bentrideronline. Please remember to post words of encouragement as this is a very hard race and many things can happen on the road. All race updates will be posted as I can get to them on the live race tracker at the top of the page. I will do my very best to give you a great picture of what is happening. Just remember that this single dad needs a little sleep too and has a job. I will go out of my way, though, and you won't be disappointed!

I saw Sergey Zimin going up Oak Creek Canyon, on 89, about 12 miles north of Sedona and about 7 miles from the first summit before 5 miles of steep but short rollers before reaching TS 9 (Flagstaff). This was Friday around 2pm. He was off his bike, while his crew was washing him down and providing fluids and food. He was holding his bike and looked like they were getting in his way in his effort to get back on the bike and back on the road. He is an amazing man.

His homemade front wheel drive recumbent is titanium. Pretty conservative design with a steep rake, probably minimizing some of the countersteering issues. Also, his bike has what appears to be a front wheel housing frame that addresses the countersteering.

    His crew, also, is `pumped.'

as of 3:15pm PST, the racers and crew are making their way to their destinations. TS 1 reached. Jacquie was taking the first climb from John and all is going to plan. Lisa and her crew are making their way up a dangerous accent with things flying in the van; Big wind and steep.... Both RV's are at their destination in Borrego Springs and the crew are waiting for the racers and are ready to hand out pie:-) I would like to take this time to give thanks to all the hard work of the crew for without their effort none of this would be happening! They deserve extra thanks at every turn for their sacrifice. If you get a chance, please use this time to go the home page and donate to the Arthritis foundation for helping to make this happen and we are so proud to help bring awareness to this disease which affects more than you may know. You can also help donate to TeamBacchettaRAAM

8:10pm PST Team Bacchetta RAAM is flying! They are through TS 2 as of about 10:40 EST and on to the next and picking up speed. This has been a great day! Good pics are coming in and the reports are good. Everyone is feeling good and are taking to their roles after the first day. People are starting to nod off for the evening and the shifts are working well. As people are feeling more and more comfortable in their roles more updates should start to come in. It really was a mad house today with cars everywhere for different teams and lots of people on the roads separated from the riders. All the crew and riders are together now. John came flying into Borrego Springs and handed off to Jacquie. Last update was John and Jacquie were resting and Larry and Kent will be out until 9:30 PST. This will be my last post for the evening as I too need to get some sleep. The updates will keep coming through the night, though, and I will post an update first thing in the morning.

I'll be at TS 6 (Congress) Sunday at 7:30am. Though I would be surprised (and excited out of all proportion) if they got their by that time I will be doing my best to congratulate and encourage. But as a RAAM Official I must not and will not assist. Safety, compliance with rules.

BTW ... I don't post, Facebook, tweet, chirp or pass gas online. Someone else will have to do that.

Thank you, Doc, for the encouragement. Every little bit helps and you are as good as they come. Sleep well and I hope you are able to see them!
