RE: ROLL CALL! 2010/11/22 22:32:39 (permalink)
Hello all,

New bent rider (1 week now).  Raced BMX for 8 years, MTB's for 20 years.  After 3 wrist surgeries and a bunch of back injuries, I hung up my bikes 3 years ago.  I tried to ride, but my wrists throbbed after a few minutes, and fingers went numb for half a day.  Said goodbye to my very expensive MTB.

Then I see my veterinarians Strada, and talked to him about it.  Damn these bents are expensive!  Anyway, my vet let me ride his Strada and now im getting excited about riding again.  I bought a "test" bent for cheap and really see the potential of me getting back to two wheels.

Right now im exploring which bent is for me... 20 inch or 26 inch front wheel.  I see the pro's and con's on both sides.  I just have to keep reminding myself that this is not an offroad bike.

I will be hanging around here, looking for advice to help me with my decision.

Welcome to the family, Apache.  Most of us changed platforms for some sort of comfort reason and have quickly become addicted.  The exercise is there as is the outdoor enjoyment....not to mention that the aerodynamics lets you perform like a much younger body.  Enjoy the ride!!!

Hi all, Have been lurking as a guest for quite some time.  I recently purchased a CA 2.0 from Marilyn at CoventryCycles.  I live in La Grande, Oregon (Northeast).  Currently, as it is 17 degrees out, the CA has only seen my stationary trainer.  Hoping to enter some longer distance rides this summer.  Possibly STP and hopefully one of the Redmond Cycling Clubs Seattle to Spokane rides.  I also have a LoGo trike and an alter-ego of monteek on Bent Rider Online.  I joined the Bent community after going over the handlebars of my Moots Psychlo-x and separating my AC joint last February.  I road it a couple times during the summer, but wondered why I would want sore neck, numb hands and sore butt.  Hence, sold it and purchased the CA!  So far, loving the bike!

Hello All,
I am from Reutlingen, Germany. I have been riding a race bike for 15 years and started to do brevets - until now up to 600km. Last year I had problems with my spine, so I had to think about giving up biking. Then I found MY Corsa in ebay.
After 1500km on it I still consider myself as a beginner, but I am getting used to recumbents. Still slow on climbs, and in the Reutlingen area there are many. Won't quit riding road bikes though, but I am planning to complete a brevet series on my Corsa this year.

Hi Albride,

Welcome to the Bacchetta club!  Hope you enjoy all that both bikes have to offer. But I will wager that the upright will be collecting a lot of dust. Post some about biking in Germany and ask questions. So many helpful people and all very nice to.

Some of y'all may have seen my posts on bikeforums.net and BROL as well advrider.com and a couple of kayak forums. I get around so it's high time to visit the Bacchetta motherlode and introduce myself.

I did a fair amount of riding and touring while I was stationed in San Antonio in the late 70s and at college in the early 80's. Smokies, Glacier-to-Yellowstone, Hill Country tours, Georgia, etc - I used to ride a lot. I've been in and out of motorcycles in between and it's time to get back on bikes. I purchased - and love - my Salsa Fargo but my neck keeps reminding me on a rear-ender in ATL in 1993. I get neck pains easily.

Since I'm riding RAGBRAI this year, I started thinking about recumbents and after visits to multiple stores and after chasing down several Craigslist ads, I purchased this beauty last weekend:

The gastank bag is from Revelate Products (Eric Parson out of Alaska) - I removed the heavy/heavy kickstand that the previous owner installed- and cleaned the chain. On my list of things to do is replace that chain and rear cassette - and new brake pads. I'll also change tires before RAGBRAI. Once I build a little confidence, I'll install a better set of spd-type pedals also.

I don't have many miles yet and recognize the need to build up my recumbent muscles but I'm real excited about the new ride and am looking forward to being a member here.

Great eyes - the previous owner upgraded them to 700c's. Not sure how they'll work out - I'll likely use slightly wider tires.

Welcome aboard Gerry

Great looking bike, it'll be a sweet ride.  One thing to enjoy is at the end of your ride perhaps a little tired but no DF riding pains.
I've just signed up for my seventh RAGBRAI with   http://www.lostandfoundadventures.net/  this will be my second year on the Corsa.  Last year was a lot of fun riding & talking with other bent riders.

Ride safe,
Jack

I'm Bob Thornton from Kathleen, GA. 59 years old, retired USAF, currently employed as a nurse anesthetist and part time nursing instructor. I currently ride a DF Trek that I bought from my youngest son a year and a half ago. Until '98 I was a runner, then an unfortunate accident on my Harley left me where I could no longer run. Within 6 years of the wreck I had undergone bilateral total knee replacements. Walking as exercise just doesn't cut it for me and I gained more weight than I wanted. I have since dropped 25 pounds. I ride with a club out of Cochran and we have a few bent riders in our midst. I have been thinking about a bent for sometime now and had pretty much decided on the Corsa. One of our bent riders has gotten me into randonneuring. After riding the 200K Brevet on my DF in Gainesville, Fl last month, my back, shoulders, arms, neck and wrist were the final straw; no way I am going to contunue doing Brevets on a DF. Then I saw that the Corsa was being made in 700c configuration and I went and ordered one. Much to my dismay I have learned I will have to wait until 1 May for this bike to materialize. Such is life. I am very much looking forward to riding my new Corsa.

Thanks Kevin, I enjoyed my time in the Air Force. I would never have made it to retirement without the support of my wife and sons. Neither chose to follow me into the military, one is an accountant the other a firefighter.

Hey Marshall, placed my order for the new 700c Corsa a few weeks ago at the Bike Store in WR. Hopefully it should be in around the first of May. Hope to ride some with you soon.
