Don,

I have a Giro 20 with a recurve seat. I would love it if you find a way to create a headrest for the recurve seat. I know some others have mentioned there shouldn't be a need for one on this bike, but I have had problems with a pinched nerve coming from my cervical vertebrae. My neck sometimes fatigues and develops pain when I ride. I would like to recline my seat further, but it puts too much strain on my neck. I know I'm probably an abberation from the norm, but there may be a few of us out there that would benefit from the headrest option for the recurve. If you are able to figure out how to do it, I would buy it.

I have been experimenting with one made from PVC pipe.

When I have it working I'll post some pics. It's ugly and I will have to mess with my seat bag way too much so I'd prefer a metal one, but needs must.

Don:
Just finished installing the headrest and going for a short spin. VERY smart design. Went on easy. Looks clean. Works great. Thanks!
Dave
Oh, one word of caution for people as stupid as me (are there such people?): Be sure the pad is installed high enough to keep the top of the alloy bar from sticking up. I was experimenting with very low pad positions and snagged the rim of my helmet, rather alarminly, on the top of the bar. Headrest and helmet momentarily locked together.

I'll try to get over to my friend's who has a recurve. A little different bend and the ADEM should become the ADR (for recurve). Will keep you posted.

Don I'm looking for a euromesh seat if anyone has one and if I find one(cheap) I'll take a headrest. Going to do Brevets on Troy's old Corsa has a fiberglass seat which I had to refiberglass(cracked it, AKA Sirbreakalot). I heard you talking about EM at Carterville Century and the comfort factor. Just retired and wife won't let me spend alot on bikes.

Hey Don, I'm not sure you will find one used. They seem to be in demand. Just tell Wifey that is something you HAVE TO HAVE and if necessary, you will take a job at WalMart as a Greeter to pay for it. You won't regret it. I had the fiberglass on my Corsa and know how rough it rides on chip seal. That's why I ride the EM, even though it is heavier than the carbon. Over the course of a brevet, it makes a big difference.
So, go ahead.....Just do it!!!

Introducing the ADEM Weight Weenie 2006/11/07 19:08:08 (permalink)
I decided to shave as much weight off my ADEM head rest as possible, so I placed it back on the drill press and commenced making it Swiss Cheese. The result is shown below....

It is the NEW ADEM W2 (in the lack of upper case, that is W squared)
or
WEIGHT WEENIE!!!

The W2 is 60 gm lighter than the original ADEM head rest (130 gm vs 190 gm)

So, for those who are REALLY concerned about wieght, for an additional $5, I will make like a termite and eat away all the extranious metal leaving you none other than an ADEM Weight Weenie headrest.

By the way, the reason I am so fond of the name ADEM (AeroDon EuroMesh), is that I work in a Nuclear Plant....That's how us Clemson Engineer spells them little fellars....adems.....How appropriate!!!

uuuuhhhh Don, the going rate for weight reduction was more like $1000 per pound of weight removed (when starting with a mid-range bike or product). So, you could charge maybe, something like $135 just for the holes.

Do you know how hard it is to find termites that eat aluminum? They don't come cheap!

Interest in a Recurve Headrest??? 2006/11/13 11:29:57 (permalink)
I have had a few requests for a headrest for the Recurve seat. With some changes, I can make the ADEM fit the bill. I would like to know how much interest there is before I start developing it. I would have to borrow a seat to check it on. Let me know if you are interested.

thanks,

Just had a thought...

I presume the height is adjustable in some way? My neck starts just as the recurve seat ends, so I'd definitely want to be able to have it seated at the right height.

Glad you said something. I was kind of fitting up to larger people, who's heads were a few inches above the seat. I have an idea for improving adjustability.

Introducing the ADEM-Re for the Recurve 2006/11/22 19:49:40 (permalink)
I finally borrowed a Recurve seat and came up with a configuration of the ADEM headrest to fit the Recurve seat. If anyone is interested, e-mail me and I can make up an ADEM-Re for you. Price is $35 plus $5 shipping.

ADEM Went on a Diet 2006/12/01 14:28:29 (permalink)
ADEM went on a diet and is a new slimmer man. With the number of requests I recieved for my Euromesh headrests, I decided outsource the bracket production to a machine shop. It turned out that it was most economical for them to program a CNC mill to do the repetitive cuts. That allowed me to do a few more things with the design. I have gone from 2" width to 1.5" material and machined the unnecessary material out of the center.

The result....the ADEM W2 is no more. All ADEMS now weigh 120 gms total.....They are ALL Weight Weenies! I am very pleased with the work of the machine shop. All brackets are identical....same bends and holes. The best thing is that I no longer have aluminum chips tracked throughout my house.

If you would like an ADEM headrest, just send me a PM or EM. They are $35 + $5 shipping.....I'll contineu to use the honor system since it has worked well within the Bacchetta family.

Hey Don,

A new rider in the Atlanta area needs a headrest for his new Corsa, It has the euromesh seat. If you want you can send it to my house or if you coming down next weekend you could bring it with you, that is that allows enough time to fab!

His name is Gary Carter, just in case he contacts you directly. BTW, I haven't installed it yet but my headrest looks like it will work perfect!
