Replacing SRAM Rocket twist shifter grip

The twist shifter grip for the front derailleur on my Bacchetta Strada (2004 vintage) has gotten all sticky and soft - probably contaminated with some sort of solvent.  I'd like to replace just the grip - is this possible?  I've found some grips being sold online but the web page says "Grips are permanently attached to shifter sleeve".  What exactly does this mean?  How much would I have to take the thing apart to do the replacement?  Should I just bite the bullet and get a new shifter?  If so, which one?

Thanks.
