Staying in shape in winter

For those that live in cold, snowy climates, what do you do to stay in shape? I live in Massachusetts and it’s been a tough winter. I ride a fat bike when I can. Luckily Cape Cod has escaped the large storms but not the cold. My condo clubhouse just put a fitness room in and equipped it with a recumbent trainer. I’m not much of an indoor rider but am going to give it a try. Here’s a picture from a recent beach ride.

I target about 2 hours a day for walking outdoors plus gym time, six days a week all winter.

That’s an amazing training schedule. Kudos to you for designing it and being able to keep it. I’d be divorced if I kept that routine. But I am going to increase my walks and weight lifting along with trainer time. I’m hoping to be in Florida for 6 weeks starting in the last week of Feb. I want to be in some sort of shape when I get there.

I have a lifelong experience with self abuse, including several 10 hour indoor training sessions in my basement in Chicago.  Though I'm still much the masochist these days, if it is too cold or wet I drive 60 miles and 4,000 feet south to train.

I'm old enough to be entitled to a double standard. :)

    Dan,
I’ll do a similar think. Massachusetts snowfall can vary drastically from the coast to inland. I much prefer riding outside over an indoor trainer. If Cape Cod has no snow, I take my fat bike and drive there for a beach ride or trail ride.

    Yup,
I try to hit the YMCA 3 times a week and give muscles a break from spinning and maybe gain some strength. Even at 70 y/o.

I sit on my ass in my office three days a week and the other four days a week I fiddle with winter clothing to avoid doing anything that may cause me to break a sweat.
