    Dan,
I've always moved the cleats as far to the rear as the slots in the soles allow. This definitely helped me. But on one pair of sandels, I modified the slots to allow mid sole placement. But I never could develop a smooth spin in that position. Glad it works for you.

Dan--I have had hot foot over the past months and think your idea will fix it. Can you give me the brands of a shoe and cleat I can try?

Cheap Shimano sandals.  Any model will do.  I use MTB pedals so those are the cleats.

In addition to the benefits I describe in my blog post I find that I get good power from the thigh muscles.

I fought it for years until I got a high end pair of Sidi shoes and Blade2 pedals. I use Shimano sandals on my trike but never push hard enough to have problems. Those suckers are heavy!!

A few years ago I weight the sandals and the Sidi shoes. Same.  The sandals, though, look like spatulas.

I'll be posting some pics of the bike and the modified sandals in a few days.

Just weighed my shoes (one of each)
Sidi Genius 5 Pro - 14.5 oz (three bolt only, will not do spd without an adaptor)
Sidi MB shoes - 16.5 oz (spd)
Shimano three strap sandals - 19.7 oz

That was easy.  Like I said.  Wait for the pics.
Don't know what shoes I had at the time.  How is this so important to you?

I think the stiffness of the Sidi's is the difference in my hotfoot problems. I had some Bontrager full carbon sole shoes before them and got hotfoot. Been using the Sidi's for a couple of thousand miles now with no hotfoot ever.

I have an entirely scientific hotfoot reality.  On even numbered years I have hotfoot problems.  On odd numbered years I don't have hotfoot problems.
