Annual maintenance (big improvement)

I used the last week of 2016 to do maintenance on my CA 2. I did the following things.

Headset:
Steering had been questionable for some time.  There was a dead spot in the steering.  The upper headset cup and bearings were in good shape.  The bottom headset bearings and crown race were in bad shape.  The bottom headset cup was fine.   I replaced both the upper and lower headset bearings and the crown race.

Brake Levers:
Although braking using the Avid speed dial levers was ok, it was not as solid as I would like.   I had seen some comments about the Cane Creek Flat top levers improving braking performance.  Installed the Cane Creek Flat top brake levers.

Cable housing and cables:
I  always replace the cable housing and cables at the start of each year.  I use the Jagwire lined housing and the Teflon coated cables

Results:
The headset maintenance solved the steering problems.  Big improvement.  I always see an improvement in shifting and braking after replacing the cable housing and cables.  The Cane Creek Flat top levers is a definite improvement over the Avid speed dial levers.  Braking performance is definitely better with these levers.

The only problem now is the weather has been lousy for the past several weeks(rain and snow this past weekend).  May get a break later this week.   It is supposed to get up into the mid 50's for a high starting on Wednesday.  I just hope the forecasted rain does not materialize.

    Great report Gary:
I  live up north on Cape Cod, and weather permitting, ride all year long.
The winters can be challenging to me and the Aero.
As far a service goes, I usually wait until spring to do the major tune up items, especially cables and brake components. We live in a damp salty atmosphere up here, so corrosion and rust is a major factor to content with on a regular basis.

    Happy New Year!

I just had my MTB housing and cables replaced with the super slick Jagwire system. Thinking of using this on my Ti Aero when it's replacement time. Bar end shifters like low friction.
