Alternative seat pad

John Schlitter told me how much he likes the M5 dense foam seat pad on his bikes. I thought I would see if I could find something similar on Amazon. This yoga pad looked interesting so I ordered it:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LY8TG3Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It measures 1/2 inch thick, not 3/4 inch as shown in the description. But this makes it the same thickness as the M5 pad. I had a brief look at the M5 pad and feel this yoga pad is close to the same density, but I did not have them side by side for a direct comparison.

The pad is very easy to cut with an electric knife. I put an extra layer on the bottom. There is enough material to cut 3 pads with bottom pieces, or 4 pads without bottom piece. All for $25.

I have been riding with this as my seat pad since February and have never been more comfortable on my Corsa and Carbon Aero, both with carbon seats. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 155 pounds. The cushioning is perfect for me.

Calvin's Challenge 12 Hour Bike Race in April was the big test and this pad passed with flying colors!

The thin pad makes you feel more connected with the bike, makes the bridging pedaling technique easier, and works better with the Adem headrest.

Bacchetta's 2 inch foam pads are OK for me but not great. As soon as the material breaks down at all I develop sciatica problems. I was replacing the Bacchetta pads every couple of thousand miles.

The one disadvantage to the yoga pad is there is no air circulation so your back gets sweaty. This does not bother me and I gladly accept it for the gain in comfort.

Just thought I would toss this out there if anyone might be interested.

    Hey Don nice pictures!
What are you using to hold it in place? Velcro? What kind of glue?

Don, a comment about sciatica problem.  Had problems with the B carbon seat and after trying a couple others mounted a Kent Polk Railgun seat.  The Railgun solved all the problems and my speed increased, since speed is one of the biggies for you would suggest talking to Kent.

Here is an alternative made with Zotefoam with air circulation channels.  I have a friend with this pad and he loves it. Except in hot humid weather which is about half the year here.

However, I have the Ventisit pad and love the ventilation compared to the "filter foam" stock pad. I have used both the comfort and thin versions and would recommend either. I bought directly from Ventisit - very good price.

Jay - I have some industrial strength velcro I bought at Lowe's several years ago. It works great on the pad!

tojesky - I have a Zotefoam pad. Don Smith, who makes them, lives just a few miles away. It is too hard for me. I actually get a bruise on my spine from it. I had a Ventisit pad several years ago. Again, it is too hard for me. Sold it long ago.

Ventisit for me.  In the cold weather, however, you had better do something about the `venti' part.  At speed you'll freeze some parts off that you might prefer to keep.

My Edge 500 is mounted on this:
    https://www.amazon.com/K-...ords=k-edge+stem+mount

And this to hold the K-Edge in place:
    https://www.amazon.com/FS...mp;keywords=fsa+th-883

I like it because the GPS is closer to me, which makes it easier for my old eyes to read. And also easier to reach the buttons while riding.

Hey Don - what a difference that adapter makes, installed last night and rode this morning. Amazed at how much better I can see the GPS, for instance I didn't even know it displayed the remaining distance in a strava segment until today.

Glad you like it! Easier to see and easier to reach. But I can't take credit for the idea. Someone detailed the setup in a thread 2 or 3 years ago either here or at BROL.

None of the seat pads shown above will work for me.  They are too thin.  I have a 3" thick open foam original seat pad on my 2005 Bacchetta Ti Aero.  The edges of it are now worn to the point that it scratches my inner thighs, so that`s why I want to replace it with an exact replacement.  `Haven`t had any luck yet finding one.  Can anyone help?

I found a great replacement seat pad for my 2005 Bacchetta Ti Aero at Bent Up Cycles.  It`s the 3" thick one which fits my seat perfectly.  A shout out for them.  They knew what I needed and shipped it quickly.
